Overview
Panasonic has introduced three interchangeable lenses for their LUMIX S Series full-frame mirrorless cameras, including a 50mm F1.4, 24-105mm F4, and 70-200mm F4. These lenses are designed for professional use and have a rugged, weather-resistant design. They also feature quick switching between focus modes and 6-stop image stabilisation for capturing fast-moving subjects. Panasonic plans to expand their S Series lens lineup with a focus on “LUMIX S PRO” models by 2020.
The L-Mount, developed by Leica Camera, provides a future-proof, flexible, and precise bayonet for various camera systems. It has a diameter of 51.6 millimeters and is suitable for both full-frame and APS-C sensors. The L-Mount contact strip allows for smooth communication between the lens and camera, and all lenses can be used without adapters on different camera models. The new S1 model from Panasonic incorporates their advanced technology and is designed for professional photography and videography.

About the Panasonic 70-200mm F4 – L Mount
Panasonic is proud to introduce three interchangeable lenses for the LUMIX S Series full-frame mirrorless cameras; 50mm F1.4, 24-105mm F4 and 70-200mm F4. Based on the Leica L-Mount and specially focusing on professional use, the LUMIX S Series pursues uncompromising standards in its cameras and lenses. While all interchangeable lenses of the LUMIX S Series provide high performance, those marked “LUMIX S PRO” push the boundaries of optical performance further for approval against Leica’s stringent standards. Panasonic is committed to designing and developing ten or more lenses, with a focus on “LUMIX S PRO” models, by 2020 and further expanding the S Series lens lineup.
All three S lenses have a rugged dust/splash-resistant design to withstand use under harsh conditions even in 10 degrees below zero to match the professional level of the S1 and S1R cameras. The focus element of the lenses is moved by motors with a sophisticated design, supporting the high frequency of the S-System sporting up to 480 frames per second. For ultimate control, the lenses have a focus clutch mechanism allowing instant switching from autofocus to manual adjustment at any time. The LUMIX S-lenses also excel when used for video as they are designed to suppress focus breathing during recording.
The LUMIX S PRO 70-200mm F4 O.I.S. telephoto zoom lens provides high-resolution, high-contrast images across the entire zoom range. Designed to be used in a wide range of situations, from portraits to sports, the lens is compatible with Panasonic’s 5-Axis Dual I.S. 2 system and offers 6 stops of image stabilisation – a first for a full-frame mirrorless camera system. 9 aperture blades create a circular opening for attractive out-of-focus highlights. The optical performance of this LUMIX S PRO lens is outstanding to comply with stringent Leica standards. The construction comprises 23 elements in 17 groups and uses a single aspherical lens and 3 extra-low dispersion lenses to minimise chromatic aberrations and maximise sharpness. It achieves a beautiful bokeh and minimal vignetting.
*Dust and Splash Resistant does not guarantee that damage will not occur if this lens is subjected to direct contact with dust and water.
L-Mount:
The L-Mount was developed by Leica Camera to provide customers with a future-proof, flexible, robust and precise bayonet that will meet even the most demanding photographic requirements. After its initial launch in 2014 in the Leica T, the L-Mount has been continuously developed by Leica Camera and its partners, resulting in improved and quasi-new L-Mount technology.
For the widest possible variety of products, the diameter of the L-mount was put at a new dimenison of 51.6 millimeters, making it suitable not only for full-frame cameras but also for APS-C sensors. The small footprint of only 20 millimeters allows for a small distance between optics and sensor, making lenses much more compact – particularly useful for wide angle development. To withstand even the heaviest loads and to guarantee maximum safety for customers over many years of intensive use, camera bayonets become wear resistant Stainless steel and with four flange segments, which prevents tilting and ensures a particularly firm and flat fit of the lens. The standardised L-Mount contact strip ensures smooth communication between the electronic components in the lens and the camera, including the possibility of firmware updates for lenses, in order to react to technical developments and thus ensure full performance in the future. Currently, the Leica SL system in full format and the APS system with camera models Leica CL, TL2 and TLde use the lens mount. All the optics of the different systems can be operated without restrictions and without adapters on all cameras – here is already one of the many advantages that customers have through the unified bayonet.
Designed to incorporate an entire array of Panasonic technology refined over a century in the consumer electronics business and ten years developing Mirrorless cameras, the new S1 model will retain essential user-friendliness and robustness as tools for photography or videography by professionals.
