The 17-70mm F/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD (Model B070) is a large aperture everyday zoom lens for Sony E-mount APS-C mirrorless cameras. This lens was created to achieve a broad zoom range and excellent image quality. With a focal length range of 17-70mm (a full-frame equivalent of 25.5-105mm), it’s the world’s first F2.8 standard zoom lens with a 4.1x zoom ratio for APS-C cameras. The 17-70mm includes Tamron’s proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation). Additionally, this lens focuses very close. It features an MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.19m (7.5 in) at the wide-angle end and 0.39m (15.4 in) at the telephoto end. When shooting very close to the subject, the lens enables expressive imagery with highly blurred backgrounds, a feature unique to large aperture lenses. The Model B070 has a focal length range of 17-70mm, equivalent to 25.5-105mm on full-frame cameras. It is the first F/2.8 high-speed zoom lens in the world for APS-C mirrorless cameras to achieve a 4.1x zoom ratio.
Outstanding optical performance
The optical construction of the new 17-70mm F/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD features 16 elements in 12 groups. Two GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lens elements and one hybrid aspherical lens element are precisely arranged to maintain high-resolution performance from edge to edge. At 70mm, a commonly used telephoto zoom focal length, the design delivers excellent resolution from edge-to-edge.

The 17-70mm F/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD features Tamron’s proprietary VC mechanism. The 17-70mm F/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD zoom measures a scant 119.3mmin length and 74.6mm in maximum diameter and weighs only 525g. This is remarkable for a lens with built-in VC image stabilization. Moisture-Resistant Construction for added protection
Seals are located at the lens mount area and other critical locations to deter infiltration of moisture and/or raindrops and afford Moisture-Resistant Construction. This feature provides an additional layer of protection when shooting outdoors under adverse weather conditions.

The AF drive incorporates a sensor that accurately detects the position of the lens while the RXD motor unit delivers optimized AF control.
