Overview
Thunderbolt 3 is a high-speed transfer technology with a transfer speed of up to 20 Gb/s. It is compatible with both macOS and Windows and has been engineered to meet the highest performance standards. The new Codex Compact Drive Dock has been introduced by ARRI to support the workflow of their ALEXA MINI LF camera. It allows for easy and reliable offloading of data from the Compact Drive and seamlessly integrates into Codexs industry-standard workflows.
The Compact Drive Dock offers a significant speed advantage compared to the USB-C Compact Drive Reader, with the ability to transfer a full Compact Drive in under 7 minutes. It also features Thunderbolt 3, which offers even higher transfer speeds. Additionally, Mac users can use the Codex Device Manager software to enable High Density Encoding (HDE) of ARRIRAW footage, reducing storage space by 40% without any loss of quality. The Compact Drive Dock is a high-performance and versatile tool for creative professionals, backed by Codexs world-class support.

About the ARRI Codex Compact Drive Dock (TB3)
ARRI is introducing a new addition to the ALEXA MINI LF workflow, the Codex Compact Drive Dock.
Offload Compact Drive data from the ARRI ALEXA Mini LF using the Compact Drive Dock. Combine with Codex Device Manager and HDE for simple and reliable downloads. Designed to support the challenging demands of creative professionals and is backed by Codex world-class support while delivering unrivaled performance for professional applications and feeds seamlessly into Codex’s industry-standard workflows.
Like the USB-C Compact Drive Reader, the Compact Drive Dock is compatible to both Mac OS and Windows without the need for additional drivers. Featuring Thunderbolt 3, however, it offers a much higher transfer speed.
Speed
The Thunderbolt 3 Dock can transfer a full Compact Drive in under 7 minutes or around 12 minutes if you have to go through an Apple Thunderbolt 3 to 2 Adapter. With the USB-C reader, it will take somewhere from 16 minutes up to 40 minutes if the computer does not offer the latest USB-C (USB 3.2 Gen2) standard. Even on older Thunderbolt 2 machines, the dock therefore offers a significant speed advantage compared to the USB-C reader.
Note: These times do not include checksum verification or HDE encoding. The transfer time will vary, depending on the system configuration (e.g. speed of target drive). If the Thunderbolt port is shared with other Thunderbolt devices, the connection speed will be reduced.
High Density Encoding
Mac users can optionally install the free Codex Device Manager software, which gives them the ability to use on the fly High Density Encoding (HDE) of ARRIRAW footage. With HDE enabled in the app preferences, MXF/ARRIRAW footage will be automatically show up as HDE file sequence (.arx). An HDE ARRIRAW file requires about 40% less storage space than the original MXF/ARRIRAW file. HDE is completely lossless – when an HDE file is decoded, it is a bit-for-bit perfect match to the original file.
